Meeting Mum...

You will be wondering what happened to the young guy I blogged about on the 9th June that was returned to Congo from the UK. It has been a hard couple of weeks for him in many ways trying to reconnect with family that he has not had any prior connection without the advantage of being able to communicate in the same language and readjust to a whole new culture. He has been well supported by the family of Cyril one of Kimbilio's carers. Cyril and his mother, who have no previous connection with him has taken him under her wing and is supporting him with accommodation and meals. He has been really ready and willing to help us out at Kimbilio with brick laying and painting! Following several days of phone calls from Aunts promising that his mother would be coming to Lubumbashi to meet him followed by lots of disappointment when she did not appear, today he finally met her for the first time in 13 years. Amazingly, there to witness this emotional event was Liz who has been supporting him through his last 2.5 years in custody and who initially contacted me to alert me to his arrival in Lubumbashi. Liz tells the story very movingly in her blog entry "I'm sweating, I'm so nervous" http://lizallcock.wordpress.com/
